Claim the Range: Building a Frontier From Scratch
A new browser strategy game is taking shape at Mothwire. Claim the Range combines classic, fast-paced gameplay with a persistent frontier built around exploration, resources, and player-owned Forts.
Development is underway on Claim the Range, a new browser-based strategy game inspired by the straightforward gameplay of earlier online strategy titles.
The goal is to create a persistent Western frontier where exploration, resource management, military strength, and competition between players form the foundation of the experience.
Rather than recreating an existing game, Claim the Range is being built from scratch with its own world, mechanics, visual identity, and long-term direction.
One of the central design decisions is to keep the experience fast and accessible. Players should be able to navigate the world quickly, manage their resources, and make decisions without working through an unnecessarily complicated interface.
The game will also retain an element of discovery. Instead of providing a complete map showing every location, players will navigate a hidden, coordinate-based world and learn their surroundings through exploration.
Behind the scenes, the early development work is establishing the systems needed to support that vision, including world coordinates, travel rules, and the foundations of a persistent game environment.
There's a long road ahead, but the direction is established: an old-school browser strategy experience with a new identity and a frontier of its own.
